Pinwheel garden planted to remember thousands of victims killed by child abuse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and members of the community spent the day remembering more than 3,000 victims of child abuse in Jefferson County.

Pinwheels were planted outside Kosair Children's Hospital Tuesday morning to honor thousands of children killed by abuse in 2014.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Children's Bureau, the number of Kentucky children who died from child abuse has decreased while number of overall cases has gone up.

"One of the reasons I'm so passionate about this is I took care of a young child who was 2 years old, who was beaten to death by a non-related male caregiver," said Erin Frazier medical director with the office of child advocacy.

This year, there are pinwheel gardens at all the Kosair Hospital medical sites.
