LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shively Police are investigating after two people were found murdered inside a car.

Police say they were called to the scene on  Appleton Lane, which is near Dixie Highway, at around 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

With yellow tape wrapped around the scene of the double homicide, investigators focused their attention on a white car where the victims were discovered.

Stuart O'Nan lives a door down. He says he heard two gunshots, walked outside, and noticed the white car.

"I walked around to the drivers side because I noticed the windshield wipers were going," O'Nan told WDRB News.

O'Nan says he saw one man inside had been shot and that's when he yelled for someone to call 911.

"Louisville Metro EMS responded to the scene and both victims were pronounced dead here at the scene," said Shively Police Sgt. Josh Myers.

He says the victims were both male and appeared to be in their late teens to early 20s.

The murders sparked a search for those responsible in the air and on the ground.

"Detectives are beginning to conduct their investigation, talk to potential witnesses," Myers said.

LMPD's crime scene unit also assisted.

As police continued worked, it appeared family members arrived on the scene. Several people were visibly upset, though authorities have not ID'd either victim.

Neighbors were also left shaken.

"This is the worst," said one woman who lives on the block. "You wonder if the neighborhood is safe anymore. This is sad, this is horrifying."

Police have no suspects in custody.
