Hildegard House opens in Butchertown to serve the local elderly

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A ribbon cutting was held Sunday at the site of a new care center for people in need during their last days.
Hildegard House in Butchertown provides a home and family to people who have neither in their final stages of life.
The home was blessed Sunday and opened for the public to take a look inside.
Employees say the non-profit organization provides free care and hospice services as a way to make Louisville a more compassionate city.
"A whole lot of elderly people die alone in nursing homes without families," said Karen Cassidy, executive director of the Hildegard House. "So we're addressing this need of our most vulnerable neighbors. These are people in our community that we want to provide care and compassion to."
Hildegard House will have its first residents later this spring. If you'd like to make a donation, click here.
