LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Monday marks 48 years since the assassination of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Louisville organization People's Rights in Demanding Equality (PRIDE Inc.) will hold a ceremony tonight to remember Dr. King. Community members are invited to attend the event at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1620 Anderson Street.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Dr. King was killed on April 4, 1968 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. He was there in support of striking African-American sanitation workers who were protesting against unfair wages and working conditions.

His death marked a pivotal moment in the national civil rights movement.
