LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A UofL student was gunned down over the weekend and police are trying to figure out who killed her, even as man charged in connection to the shooting -- but not the shooting itself -- appeared in court this morning.
Aron Ballard was arraigned today. He does face charges, but murder isn't one of them.
In court this morning, the 22-year-old pleaded not guilty. He's charged with 2 counts of assault, and 5 counts of wanton endangerment. Police say he allegedly shot two men over the weekend at a home on Bolling Avenue. Both victims lived.
Police say a third victim, 20-year-old Lottie Eicher, was also shot Saturday and later died at University Hospital.
A witness tells WDRB, five men walked up to the home, demanding guns. That witness says Ballard targeted Eicher and her boyfriend, Rodriq.
Ballard admitted that he shot someone in the leg, then fired another shot through a door.
Police are still waiting on forensic tests to figure out who fired the shots that killed Eicher. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.
The family tells WDRB: "Lottie was a Christian and cared greatly about the people in the west end. It's tragic she was caught in the middle of these circumstances."
Her brother says she was a sophomore, and a civil engineering student at U of L's Speed School.
Again, Ballard has not been charged with murder. He is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $10,000 bond.
