This time around, I’m going to share just one opinion, and spend the rest of my time offering facts.
The opinion? During most of his tenure as the school’s President, Dr. James Ramsey has been extremely good for the University of Louisville, energetically overseeing many improvements, raising the school’s national profile and overseeing a huge increase in fundraising.
Now the facts:
Even though I’m certain he wasn’t directly involved in any of them, a number of prominent scandals and misappropriations have happened under Dr. Ramsey’s watch.
In the last few years, several University employees – including a dean – have either been convicted of embezzlement or are currently under investigation.
The University is the subject of an FBI investigation into possible misuse of federal funds.
Last week, nearly 70 percent of the U of L Law School faculty supported a no-confidence vote in Dr. Ramsey.
And, more than three-quarters of the faculty of the School of Arts and Sciences has done the same.
My question -- and I sincerely want to know what you think: Is it still possible for Dr. Ramsey to regain control of the ship and continue the string of positive accomplishments that have occurred during his tenure? Or has he been irreparably damaged by these circumstances, necessitating new leadership?
Please call, and let us know your opinion.
I’m Bill Lamb and that’s my Point of View.
