Man accused of shooting in Bardstown faces Jefferson County judge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man accused of shooting a father of three in Bardstown is also in trouble in Jefferson County.

Darnell McGee, age 28, pleaded not guilty to giving officers a false name when he was taken into custody.

McGee was arrested around 8:45 last night in Louisville. According to the arrest report, an officer saw McGee loitering outside an apartment complex. When the officer approached him, McGee allegedly said his name was "Pizzarro Munoz," and that he didn't know his social security number.

Police later used fingerprints to confirm that "Munoz" was in fact McGee, the same man wanted by Bardstown Police.

In Nelson County, McGee faces charges -- including attempted murder -- for allegedly shooting 33-year-old John Chesser, on Tuesday. Chesser's girlfriend -- who asked to remain anonymous -- says he was shot in the thigh, and his leg may need to be amputated. She says the couple was walking when her boyfriend started talking to the accused gunman.

"I hear that he's got a gun and when I initially turned around, the first shot had already been fired," she said. "The second shot is when it jammed the gun, and I seen that one 'cause I was running him after that."

The only other charge he faces in Jefferson County is possession of marijuana. That's unrelated to the shooting. The case is expected to be transferred back to Nelson County.

His bond is set at $100,000.
