Kentucky Hoopfest to remain in Louisville, despite sale

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local basketball tournament has been sold, but it's staying in Louisville.

Kentucky Hoopfest was originally owned by Eddie Ford, but has been sold to the Kentucky State Fair Board.

The tournament brings more than 140 teams representing 20 states and Canada, to Louisville. The best players from different schools get the opportunity to showcase their skills for college coaches and recruiters.

Kentucky Hoopfest started in 1980.

"When you play with better players and you play against better players, you're gonna be better," said Ford. "You're gonna play with teams outside. You don't know the opponent you're getting ready to play. So you have to enter into a different mental frame of mind."

Kentucky Hoopfest is July 13-17.
