LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Taylor County, Ky. man is sentenced to prison for possession of child pornography.

Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Department of Criminal Investigations announced Thursday Cary W. Pembleton, 55, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Beshear's Cyber Crimes Unit did a forensic examination of Pembleton's electronic media at the time of his arrest in July of 2015. Investigators say they found 270,000 child porn images on various servers in Pembleton's residence.

Pembleton plead guilty in January to 100 felony counts of possession of a matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and one felony count of distribution of a matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

He was sentenced last week in Taylor County Circuit Court. Pembleton will also be required to register as a sex offender and complete a sex offender treatment program.

"Our families are just a little bit safer with another child sex offender behind bars," Beshear said.

The Attorney General added, "I applaud the tireless work of the Cyber Crimes Unit to ensure justice is served to those who prey on our children. It is a top priority of my office to protect our most vulnerable children."

Beshear says the work of the Cyber Crimes Unit is part of his effort to keep sexual predators away from Kentucky's families and children.
