LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The 911 calls are released from the frantic search for a gunman in Bardstown, Ky.

The shooting victim's girlfriend was on the phone with emergency dispatchers as she tried to chase down the suspect.

Darnell McGee, 28, was arrested late Wednesday night in Louisville.

Dispatchers say calls started pouring into the call center Tuesday night after John Chesser, 33, was shot.

One caller said, "I believe a man's been shot over there."

Witnesses spotted Chesser, a father of three, lying in the street near North 3rd Street and Daugherty Avenue in Bardstown, Ky.

Another caller said, "Hurry up, somebody was just shot in the alleyway behind Mackin's Antiques."

Chesser's girlfriend says the two were on a walk when they ran into a guy she thought her boyfriend knew. Police say that man was Darnell McGee.

After the shooting Chesser's girlfriend says she ran after him, while dialing 911.

"I chased the guy. He is wearing a black shirt, black baseball cap," Chesser's girlfriend said on the phone. "He stole. He stole our money."

Neighbor, Wendy Ackley noticed the chase. "Some lady was chasing him down the street saying, 'He's got a gun. Call 911.'"

Meanwhile, Chesser's girlfriend was still trying to catch McGee while on the phone with dispatchers.

"How is he doing?" The dispatcher asked Chesser's girlfriend referring to Chesser.

"I don't know. I'm about to go back to him. I chased the man," she responds.

The dispatcher then tells the woman to go back to Chesser, to which his girlfriend responds that she is almost back to him.

McGee was eventually tracked down in Louisville. He was spotted outside an apartment complex, where he gave police a false name of Pizzaro Munoz.

Fingerprints later revealed the man was McGee.

He is now facing a list of charges, including drug possession and attempted murder.

Chesser's girlfriend tells WDRB he was shot in the thigh and she says his leg may need to be amputated.
