Police arrest man accused of gunning down victim during argument in SW Louisville
Police have arrested a man in connection with a murder last month in southwest Louisville.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a murder last month in southwest Louisville.
Demarcus Briggs, 20, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Friday. Police say he shot the victim, 25-year-old Brennan Hayes, in a driveway at the corner of Allston Avenue and South 23rd Street on March 28.
"It's a lot of emotions," said Hayes' aunt, Robin Bellamy, "Questions run through your head. Why? What happened? What's behind it?"
According to the arrest report, Briggs shot Hayes during an argument.
"We're still dealing with it. His cousins and siblings? It's going to be hard. They were close," Bellamy said.
A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, says she saw it happen.
"The guy that's dead said, 'Please don't do this' ...[then he] pulled two guns out and shot him."
Other neighbors say crime is becoming more common in the area.
Briggs is being held without bond at Metro Corrections. He's expected in arraignment court on Saturday.
"It's a step forward knowing he's off the street, because it's got to stop somewhere," Bellamy said of Briggs' arrest.
