Indiana boy gets stood up on 9th birthday, but the internet had his back

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana boy celebrated his ninth birthday ... alone.

But his grandmother found a way for the whole world to help him celebrate.

The boy's so-called friends stood him up last weekend. None of his invites showed up, leaving him feeling sad and disappointed.

In hopes of cheering him up, his grandmother shared his story on Facebook.

"Not wanting to cut his cake because one person might show up," Amelia Lara said. "So it is my mission to have as many cards sent to my little guy. This breaks my heart."

The post was shared more than 2,000 times.

Gerald is now getting cards sent to him from around the globe.

If you want to send a card, here's the address:

Gerald Hamilton
c/o Amelia Lara
238 Main Street
Hobart, IN, 46342.
