State admits Planned Parenthood may have followed orders from Inspector General

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Contradicting its own argument, the Commonwealth of Kentucky admits Planned Parenthood was given permission to begin performing abortions.

That's even as the agency waited for its license to be finalized.

The state filed a lawsuit earlier this year claiming the agency was performing illegal abortions in Louisville.

Planned Parenthood said it was given permission to begin the procedures and asked to have the suit dismissed.

In its response, the state admits the then-Inspector General informed the organization in December that it was a "long standing policy that abortion clinics could begin operations without a license."

However, the state says that was done "without authority" and outside the law.
