One man killed, one person injured following shooting near University of Kentucky
Lexington Police say an officer heard gunshots around 2:18 a.m. on Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A release from The Fayette County Coroner says one person has died after a shooting that happened near the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington. Lexington Police say a second person was also injured.
The coroner's office has identified the victim as 28-year-old James Gordon. He died from a gunshot wound at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
An autopsy is expected to be performed on Gordon's body on Saturday morning.
Police say the shooting happened in the 500 block of Woodland Avenue. The area is near the University of Kentucky.
Lt. Jonathan Bastian with the Lexington Police says an officer heard gunshots around 2:18 a.m. on Saturday.
Officials say a second victim was also injured, but that person's injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Lt. Bastian says there's currently believed to be no threat to UK's campus.
No arrests have been made in the case. Lexington Police are continuing to investigate.
