LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – The Louisville Cardinals hoped to make a statement this weekend against Florida State. Instead, UofL took a step back Sunday as the Cards lost 16-5 to the Seminoles at Dick Howser Stadium.
Senior Kyle Funkhouser took the loss dropping to 3-3 on the season. Funkhouser only lasted 3 1/3 innings. He gave up 8 earned runs on six hits, striking out 4.
The 16 runs allowed by the Cardinals Sunday were the most the team has given up in almost four years.
"Hopefully, that's the last time it happens to us this season but if you play this game long enough, these kinds of days will happen to you,” said Louisville manager Dan McDonnell.
The Cardinals can’t think about losing two of three to the Seminoles for long. UofL plays Western Kentucky Tuesday then the Cards visit UK in a makeup game on Wednesday.
