Efforts underway to find 'Sam the Space Dog' after high-altitude balloon flight

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- He was launched to the very edge of space -- but he never came home.

Now the search is on for Sam, the toy space dog.

He was attached to a helium balloon and sent to the edge of space. It was part of a London primary school's science project. According to flight data, Sam reached an altitude of over 15 miles above the Earth before the balloon popped

The go-pro camera and GPS tracker that went up with him returned, but there's no sign of Sam.

The hashtag #FindSam was trending on social media.

There's also a Facebook page to spread the word.
