Indiana town names street to remember college basketball player who battled cancer

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana town is remembering a college basketball player for her fight against cancer.

A street in Lauren Hill's hometown of Greendale, Indiana, was just renamed "#22 Lauren Hill Lane".

Family and friends gathered Sunday to remember the basketball player and her effort to raise millions of dollars for cancer research.

Hill was diagnosed with brain cancer in high school but fought to play college ball.

"I'm honored that she is here, across from the park that she loved to swim at and play at and ride her bike through," said Lisa Hill, Lauren Hill's mother.

Hill made national headlines when she played in a season-opener for Mount St. Joseph while she was battling cancer. She died last April, and posthumously received the "Best Moment Award" at last year's ESPY's for her shot in that basketball game.
