LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police say a portion of I-71 South in Henry County is shut down due to a fatal multi-vehicle wreck.

Officials say one person was killed and a second person was "critically wounded" in the crash.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. near mile marker 35 around Campbellsburg. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet website says the accident involved a trailer.

At least two vehicles were involved in the crash, according to a police dispatcher.

Investigators say a vehicle was heading south on I-71 when the tractor trailer crossed the median and hit the vehicle head on. A passenger in the vehicle, 26-year-old Jacqueline Hayes of Louisville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Henry County coroner. The driver of the vehicle was flown to U of L Hospital.

Investigators say the driver of the tractor trailer was taken to U of L Hospital by Henry County EMS.

Officials say the slow lane of I-71 South is now open.
