Jeffersontown Elementary School raises nearly $7,000 in honor of teacher with cancer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown Elementary School raised thousands of dollars in honor of an art teacher diagnosed with cancer.

Over the past month, the school raised nearly $7,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

To celebrate that generosity, the school's principal shaved his head, and the school's gym teacher dressed up in a prom costume.

Shannon Townsley was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. She's now in recovery.

"The school and the students just rallied around me and my recovery, and they've come together to raise money to help other families," Townsley said.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society works to help both adults and children suffering from blood cancers.
