LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville jump-started a busy week with a second one-sided win over Western Kentucky. The Cardinals followed up a 17-0 win over Western (18-14) in late March in Bowling Green with a 14-2 win Tuesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
It was the first of a stretch of five games in six days for the 7th-ranked Cardinals who were coming off a series loss at Florida State which included Sunday's 16-5 defeat in Tallahassee.
Junior right-hander Shane Hummel gave up two runs on five hits in seven innings of work to get the win, his first of the year. Colby Fitch led the offensive attack, going four-for five with a double, triple, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Fitch is now hitting .468. Blake Tiberi went two-for-three with a homer and four runs batted in.
U of L (25-7) will travel to Lexington to meet number 23 Kentucky at 6:30 Wednesday and then return home to host 18th-ranked Clemson Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Jim Patterson.
