LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Derby's 14-karat gold trophy has arrived at Churchill Downs.
The trophy, made by Richline, stands at 22 inches tall, and 65 ounces, excluding the jade base. It was unveiled during at 10:30 a.m. press conference Wednesday morning.
A Richline team has created trophies for the Kentucky Derby since 1975. They also produce three smaller versions in sterling silver given to the trainer, jockey and breeder.
For the 75th, 100th and 125th runnings, the trophy included a mantle of roses formed from rubies and emeralds, and a horseshoe filled with diamonds.
