Ballard High raised $46,000 in last year's Dance Maroon.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a six-hour dance marathon that raises money for pediatric oncology research and Ballard High School students are hoping to surpass the $46,000 they raised in 2015.
The sixth annual Ballard Dance Maroon will be Friday from 6 p.m. until midnight in the school's large gymnasium. The school is located at 6000 Brownsboro Road in eastern Jefferson County.
Students have been contributing to the fund-raising effort all year and their efforts will culminate with Friday's event. There is a $30 minimum donation that can be paid at the door.
Over the past five years, the event has raised $160,000 for cancer research.
The marathon takes its name from a unique line dance and is choreographed by student committee members and will be performed every hour, on the hour.
It is a mini version of Dance Blue, a 24-hour dance marathon at the University of Kentucky.
