Louisville Zoo unveils Lego animal sculptures as part of upcoming 'Nature Connects' exhibit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Larger-than-life animals have made their way to the Louisville Zoo.

Three Lego sculptures were unveiled today. The snow leopard, whooping crane and polar bear are just a preview of the Nature Connects exhibit coming to the Zoo in 2018.

The polar bear contains more than 133,000 Lego bricks. Officials say some of the sculptures take up to 200 hours to create.

"These three sculptures came on a big semi truck this morning," said Kyle Shepherd, the media relations manager for the Louisville Zoo. "They came in these big beautiful crates. The big reveal, when they opened the crates, they were beautiful inside, of course."

The three-piece preview will be on display starting tomorrow through May 5. You can see the sculptures for free with Zoo admission.

The preview is part of the Zoo's "Party for the Planet: A Month-Long Celebration of the Earth."
