Hillview to avoid city bankruptcy with lawsuit settlement

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Hillview, Ky., may not have to file for bankruptcy after all.

In 2005, the Truck America driver training company of Shepherdsville sued the city over disputed land.

After several appeals, a judge finally ruled in the truck school's favor by ordering Hillview to pay the company more than $12 million.

Hillview decided to file for bankruptcy protection.

But WDRB News has learned the city and the company reached an agreement last month to avoid bankruptcy.

However, it will bring tax increases and a parceling of future city revenue to pay Truck America.

The occupational tax will increase by .3 percent, and the insurance premium tax will increase by 2 percent.
