Police say Louisville man recklessly fired handgun during fight inside business

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is in serious trouble after police say he endangered the lives of several people when he fired a gun inside a business.

According to the arrest report, it happened Jan. 8 at a convenience store in the 1500 block of S. Shelby Street. Police say that's where Nickolas Lavely began arguing with a man at the counter. During the argument, police say Lavely was punched in the face and knocked to the floor. That's when Lavely's brother began fighting with the man who punched Lavely.

During the struggle, police say Lavely pulled a .380 handgun and began "waving it around the brother and unknown white male while they were fighting." Police say Lavely fired one shot while inside the business, hitting the bottom of the front door.

Police say Lavely then chased the man from the store into the parking lot and fired five more shots at him. According to police, one of those bullets hit a nearby home in the 1400 block of Bland Street and lodged in an interior kitchen wall above the cabinets - not far from where an 11-year-old boy was standing.

Police say another person was sitting on the living room couch, just a few feet from where the bullet hit the wall.

Lavely was arrested April 14 and charged with wanton endangerment.
