LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's Derby time!

You knew it was coming: there's nothing that would be more embarrassing than showing up for the 142nd Kentucky Derby, only to see the official Churchill Downs sign with a big fat "141st" on it! Oh the humiliation! What would you tell your friends who came all the way to the Bluegrass State, only to see an out-of-date sign?

Okay, we exaggerate.

But the racetrack did change its sign today as preparations continue for the 142nd Kentucky Derby, scheduled for Saturday, May 7.

The "changing-of-the-sign" is an annual tradition that doesn't come with a lot of pomp and circumstance, but does give us all a heads up that Derby is on the way! WDRB photojournalist Eric Edwards captured the moment.
