LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Michigan couple goes to court because of overdue library charges.

Cathy and Melvin Duren face criminal charges because they didn't return a Doctor Seuss book to the library.

The Durens say their son used their library card to borrow the book in 2014 to read to their granddaughter, but the book was lost.

Both face a misdemeanor charge for failure to return property even though they paid the fees owed.

"I can't imagine going to jail over it, but I certainly will fight these charges cause I'm not guilty," said Melvin Duren. "I'm willing to pay the fines that the library needed and promised I won't ever come back there no more."

Both of the Durens remain free on a $100 bond.
