Habitat for Humanity holds first official 'Love Your Neighborhood' event on Saturday
Putting the pride back into the Smoketown and Shelby Park neighborhoods was the goal of Habitat for Humanity's first official "Love your neighborhood" event on Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Putting the pride back into the Smoketown and Shelby Park neighborhoods.
That was the goal of Habitat for Humanity's first official "Love your neighborhood" event on Saturday.
Almost 300 volunteers from across Jefferson County helped with repair projects in the Smoketown-Shelby Park neighborhoods.
Volunteers made home repairs, restored playground equipment and cleaned up alleys.
"This is a fantastic event, because we are engaging the neighborhood. We are bringing the neighbors out. They're working together to beautify the neighborhood," Lisa Dettlinger, Development Resource Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, said.
"It's important because we want to create the pride back in this neighborhood. And we want to increase the environment by making it a safer and healthier environment," Dettlinger said.
Organizers say another "Love Your Neighborhood" event is planned for the fall.
