State rejects trustee's effort to make customers pay for Bullitt Utilities' mess

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a win for Bullitt County neighbors dealing with the sewage company that dumped waste into public water.

The state has rejected a bankruptcy trustee's effort to have customers pay for Bullitt Utilities' mess.

The trustee wanted the public service commission to reconsider a previously dismissed surcharge that would've raised customer's bills by 120 percent.

Bullitt Utilities owes millions to environmental cleanup companies.

Last summer, WDRB discovered the collapse at the Hunters Hollow wastewater treatment plant was never fully fixed.

Raw waste plunged into a nearby creek for more than a year.

After our investigation Bullitt Utilities abandoned the plant and was forced into bankruptcy.
