POV GUEST EDITORIAL: Awards in the Arts

Christen Boone
Fund for the Arts President & CEO

I’m Christen Boone, with the Fund for the Arts. I am excited to invite the community to attend Opening Night on April 30 at Churchill Downs. This night will feature arts experiences at every turn as we kick off Kentucky Derby week at the racetrack.

As part of this special evening, Fund for the Arts, Churchill Downs and the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation will host Louisville’s inaugural Awards in the Arts to celebrate the talent and passion of our local arts community. Throughout the night, we’ll honor individuals and groups that have made a tremendous impact on creating a stronger, more vibrant community through the arts. The award recipients are an inspiring class – from world-renowned sculptor Ed Hamilton to hip hop artist and elementary school teacher Jecorey Arthur.  They join Teddy Abrams who is changing the face of our Louisville Orchestra, and orchestras across the country.

Artists play an integral role in the Louisville community. We are lucky to live in a city with a vibrant visual art scene, world-class performing arts organizations, active craftspeople and leading youth training centers. The Arts improve our quality of place, but enhances education opportunities and spur economic development

Come out to celebrate with us at Churchill Downs on April 30th. A portion of the proceeds will benefit arts education and access. For more information, visit http://awardsinthearts.fundforthearts.org.

I’m Christen Boone, and that’s my Point of View.
