LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A stirring come-from-behind victory for the Louisville Cardinals baseball team against rival Kentucky Tuesday night was punctuated with a walk-off by Lexington-native Devin Hairston.
3rd-ranked Louisville trailed 12th-ranked Kentucky 5-1 before tying the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth. Hairston singled up the middle to score Colin Lyman to give U of L a 7-6 win. Louisville knocked off UK last week in Lexington 9-6.
Hairston, the brother of UK’s Dorian Hairston, was all business with the media after celebrating the win with his teammates.
“I think any walk-off hit is sweet, you know, and it’s just a little bit better that my brother’s on that team,” said the Cardinal sophomore shortstop.
“He’s gotta be the smallest four-hole hitter in the country,” said Cardinals head coach Dan McDonnell of the 5’7 Hairston. “But he hits there because he’s going to move the ball.”
Kentucky is now 23-13 heading into a three game series against Arkansas in Lexington, beginning Thursday.
Louisville moves to 30-7 and heads to Boston College for a three game series that starts Friday.
