LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Firefighters were called to the Waste Reduction Center at Meriwether Avenue and E. Burnett Avenue Wednesday.

People from all over Louisville called emergency crews after seeing thick smoke over the Germantown, Shelby and Meriwether neighborhoods.

MetroSafe tells WDRB trash was burning at the recycling center just before 7 p.m.

The smoke got out of control blowing over nearby homes and businesses.

Fire officials say there are no injuries or serious damage to property.

The trash is expected to smolder through Thursday morning. Crews will remain on scene until then.
