LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Prince not only shared his music with fans, but he also gave back to the community -- including in Louisville.

The pop star played four shows at the Louisville Palace in 2015, but years before he did much more.

Prince wrote a $12,000 check in 2001 to the Louisville Free Public Library's Western branch.

It was designated for community building efforts.

The Western Library was significant in the history of our nation.

It was the first free public library for African-Americans staffed entirely by African-Americans.
