LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Derby Festival "They're off Luncheon" became the "Mayne Event" on Friday.

ESPN anchor and reporter Kenny Mayne hosted the Derby Festival kickoff. The longtime horse racing fan has been to more than a dozen Kentucky Derby's but says he had no idea the party got started this early.

Mayne said it was an honor to host one of the Derby Festival's oldest events at the Galt House.

"I think the thing that stands out is the passion for what they do here," Mayne said. "And there's a few leaders -- you've got horses, you got your drinks and you got your basketball, and some people are into all of it, and some are into one or two of them and there's a real pride, a regional pride."

WDRB's Sterling Riggs emceed Friday's luncheon.
