UPDATE: Officials release name of man found dead in Brandeis Elementary School parking lot
A man believed to be in his 30s or 40s was found dead in the school's parking lot around 11:30 Tuesday night.
LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Authorities have released the name of a man who was found dead in the parking lot of Brandeis Elementary School.
The victim was 40-year-old Troy D. Pruitt, according to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jim Wesley. Officials say he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police responded to the school at 28th and W. Kentucky Street around 11:30 Tuesday night.
At this time, police do not know if Pruitt was murdered at the scene or if he was brought there.
LMPD cleared the scene just before 5:30 a.m. and want parents to know the area is secure.
"There shouldn't be any evidence whatsoever left over that children or parents would be aware that there was a crime that occurred," said LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley
School officials say they're under normal operations today. Neighbors who live right by the school say they're troubled something like this would happen near young children.
"I live right down the street here on Kentucky Street and it's pretty quiet where I live at," said Summer May. "I mean, I hear gunshots every now and then but I didn't hear nothing about nobody. I mean, that's crazy to me."
