LOUISVILLE. Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police arrest a man after authorities say he shot the mother of his children.

Dewayne Pope, 28, was arrested early Wednesday morning in the 2300 block of Nichols View Court, near Seelbach Avenue. The police report says the shooting happened on April 8, 2016.

The official arrest warrant says the victim and a witness were stopped at a traffic light at 8th and Broadway when Pope pulled up next to their vehicle. Authorities say Pope had texted the victim before he pulled up next to the vehicle in which the victim was a passenger.

Police say Pope told the victim he could see the man she was with. According to officials, Pope allegedly rolled down his window and shot the victim through the passenger door of the vehicle "striking the victim in the right thigh/hip area." Investigators say Pope then fled the scene.

According to police, a witness drove the victim to Norton's Hospital for treatment. The woman was then taken to U of L Hospital.

Officials say the victim had an order of protection against Pope and that he was required to stay at least 500 feet from the victim.

Pope is charged with assault and violation of an order of protection.
