LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – Florida Derby winner Nyquist maybe Uncle Mo’s most popular colt these days but don’t forget about one of his other Kentucky Derby contenders.
“He’s a big baby,” said trainer Todd Pletcher.
He is Outwork and the son of Uncle Mo is ready to make a name for himself in the race dear old dad never won.
“He’s been galloping well over the track,” said Pletcher. “Any where we’ve taken him, he seems to do well. “
That includes the Wood Memorial where Outwork was victorious earlier this month. In four races, Outwork has three wins and one second place finish. (Ironically at the Tampa Bay Derby to Destin, Pletcher's other horse running in the Kentucky Derby.)
Pletcher likes Outwork’s speed and his demeanor.
“He has a laid back disposition. He takes everything in stride.”
As does Pletcher who is trying to win his second Kentucky Derby and first since Super Saver in 2010.
“This is when it gets serious and this is when it gets exciting,” said Pletcher. “The field will start to gel and take shape.”
