LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)  -- As of Friday evening, preparations were still underway for the opening of the Spring meet at Churchill Downs.

“There's a flurry of activity,” said Churchill Downs Spokesman Darren Rogers. “Workers at Churchill Downs working around the clock.”

Now that the renovations are completed to the Turf Club, leaders of Churchill Downs are ready to show off for fans.

“We've finished our $18 million renovation to those spaces, and it's absolutely beautiful,” Rogers said. “Opening night kicks off Derby week in style, prime-time under the lights.”

Races start at 6 p.m. and go into Saturday night with off days on Sunday and Monday.

“We come back Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and we have Dawn at the Downs,” Rogers said.  “A great time to see those Derby horses preparing.”

Churchill Downs has also launched a new phone app that will give you directions at the track, allow you to place bets, look up information on horse and more.

“You can express order food and drink to either be picked up,” Rogers said. “It'll tell you, your order will be ready in five minutes, and you pick it up.”

Rogers estimates Churchill Downs will deal with more than 400,000 visitors before the Kentucky Derby.

“We’re looking forward to opening up the gates and welcoming the fans back through the gate,” Rogers said. “It's been since November since we've seen our customers, and we're proud of this week and excited about it.”
