LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Valley High School student was arrested after authorities say he was involved in a physical altercation with other students.

Shermaine Pendleton, 18, was arrested at the school on Monday, according to the official police report. JCPS officials say there was a fight in the school's cafeteria.

Authorities say Pendleton threw a chair in an attempt to hit a student and hit an employee in the leg. District officials say a second student, who has not been identified, was also arrested.

Witnesses say the fight started with two girls; boys then jumped in and tables were overturned.

The district says it was the result of an out-of-school activity that occurred over the weekend. JCPS says all the students involved were disciplined according to the code of conduct.

Due to privacy issues, the district says it can't discuss the number of students involved or how they were disciplined.

Pendleton is charged with assault.
