LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Detroit doesn't have enough money to pay its teachers, and to protest, hundreds of educators called out sick today, forcing the district to close all but three public schools.

The district is $515 million in debt.

Unless the Michigan state government steps in, the Detroit school district will run out of money on July 1.

More than 1,500 teachers called out sick Monday, forcing 94 schools to close.

Teachers are expected to be back in class Tuesday.
