Trainer Doug O'Neill believes Nyquist can live up to the hype
Derby buzz has surrounded the colt, since he won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in 2015.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nyquist has been earning Kentucky Derby buzz since winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in 2015. Now, he's ready and headed toward the First Saturday in May.
Trainer Doug O'Neill says he's a rock star who loves the attention. And all eyes were on Nyquist, as he jogged on the Churchill Downs track on Monday. And O'Neill things he has what it takes to break clean and hit the wire on Saturday.
Nyquist is one of three horses sired by Uncle Mo, who was scratched from the Derby because of illness five years ago.
O'Neill also saddles Land Over Sea for the Kentucky Oaks.
The O'Neill stable has horses in six stakes Friday and Saturday. On Friday they'll run Jeremy's Legacy in the $150,000 Edgewood (GIII), Guns Loaded in the $150,000 Twin Spires Turf Sprint (GIII) and Land Over Sea in the $1,000,000 Longines Kentucky Oaks (GI). On Saturday they'll go for the $250,000 Pat Day Mile (GIII) with Ralis, the $300,000 American Turf (GII) with Frank Conversation and, of course, the $2 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (GI) with Nyquist.
