LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The signs have been made, the T-shirt color has been selected and the community has been alerted.

Teachers, employees, students, parents and community members planned walk-ins at 60 JCPS schools on Wednesday, which is by the far the largest group of schools to participate in the ongoing protests this week.

Those participating in the walk-ins are protesting two recent plans announced by the district: loosening punishments for in-school offenses and freezing salaries of some JCPS employees, including bus drivers and teachers.

Hundreds of students, parents, teachers and other school staff have showed up at the 23 walk-ins that 25 of the district's other schools have already held. Five were on Monday, another 18 were on Tuesday.

Another 35 are scheduled for Thursday.

At the Eastern High School walk-in on Tuesday, many community members walked from their homes nearby to participate as students and teachers spoke about their frustrations with the district.

"If they think the only thing we are upset about is the salary freeze, they need to step inside a school," one teacher said.

A senior told me this year has been a difficult year for student discipline issues.

"Some of these kids are out of control, they are so disrespectful and at times, they are violent," she said. "I've seen them cuss out teachers, hit teachers and fight other kids. These are things you shouldn't see in school and we see them every day."
