Mayor Fischer enters into friendly Derby wager with Ocala, Fla. mayor
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- This Kentucky Derby, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Ocala, Florida, Mayor Kent Guinn are going head-to-head in a friendly wager that pits Louisville bourbon against Ocala brandy.
The wager is an annual tradition between the mayors of the two cities. Fischer's winning horse is Kentucky-bred Brody's Cause, trained by Louisville native Dale Romans. Guinn's horse is Gun Runner, a horse that was bred in Kentucky and trained by Steven M. Asmussen.
Fischer bet a bottle of Old Forester bourbon, distilled by Brown-Forman. Guinn bet Marion Black 106 -- the Spirit of Florida Tangerine Brandy, distilled by Fishhawk Sprits of Ocala.
"Derby is all about pageantry and tradition -- and this annual bet has become a fun tradition," Fischer said, according to the news release. "This week, Mayor Guinn and all the citizens of the world become honorary Kentuckians."
