Derby Week Draws Pressure And Parties

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Lets face it, it's hard to follow what happened last year. American Pharoah ended the 37 year wait for a "triple crown" winner.
But that's in the past, the hype for the next great race starts during the week leading up to the 2016 Kentucky Derby.

Derby week is all about food, fashion and of course the four legged kings that make things special.

The "Chow Wagon" ushered in lots of hungry people on Wednesday, they scarfed down food and listened to live music all on the banks of the Ohio River.

Also on Wednesday we did have some racing, but it wasn't at Churchill Downs.

"The Kentucky Derby is the fastest two minutes in sports, the Great Steamboat race is the longest two hours in sports," said Capt. Mark Doty.

The Great Steamboat race doesn't have high end horsepower, however it does have a history that goes back 102 years.

This year the glory went to the Belle of Cincinnati which toppled the hometown favorite the Belle of Louisville.

All eyes are now focus on Thursday for "Thurby" and the Pegasus Parade.
