Old Forester wants to help Louisville "Derby like a local" on "Thurby"
The Julep Punch to get the party started, and the giveaways planned around Churchill Downs for Derby weekend.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Churchill Downs is celebrating Kentucky at the track this year with Louisville's own Kentucky Bourbon: Old Forester. Founded five years before the first Kentucky Derby and the oldest, continuously produced bourbon still owned by the same family, Old Forester proudly sponsors many of the track festivities this year.
Old Forester is bringing back the popular theme this year with the mint julep green shirts they've spotted far and wide. This year, they are on the search for those who know how to Derby and those who really don't. And they're rewarding those enthusiastic fans at both Thurby and Derby this year with t-shirts and other fun prizes. For those they spot decked and dressed for Derby: coozies and t-shirts! If we spot you needing a little bit of help this year, well, they're going to help you out. If you are tottering around on heels, they're packing band-aids and flip flops (all Derby locals know comfy shoes are key!).
On Thurby, Old Forester will be set up across from the stage near gate 1 with a green carpet and photo booth for free pictures and prop styling of those specially selected guests. On Derby day, you'll find them roaming the track and in the infield Mint Julep tents!
Julep Punch- a new THURBY cocktail at the track: Juleps for a crowd
Every day of racing should have its own cocktail, right? This year, guests at the track will sample a new Julep Punch (available THURBY only) created by Old Forester's, Jackie Zykan. This crowd-pleaser of a Julep can be mixed ahead of time and put out in pitchers or punchbowls for your Derby party.
