Trainer Todd Pletcher pins hopes for his 2nd Derby win on Outwork and Destin

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Trainer Todd Pletcher is in the hunt for his second Kentucky Derby win.

And he has a Derby duo in shape for the a run at the roses. Wood Memorial winner Outwork is a gray son of Giant's Causeway, and Tampa Bay Derby winner Destin is a bay colt out of Uncle Mo.

Outwork's owner Mike Repole he not only owns the colt, but he bred him and helps put him through his paces at Churchill Downs. Both Outwork and Destin- have speed and will likely both be at the front of the pack in the 20 horse Derby field.

Pletcher's confidence in his Derby duo is helped by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez, who will be aboard Outwork. And Javier Castellano, who is currently the leading rider in the county for money won, gets the mount on Destin.

Pletcher's Oaks 142 duo of is Mo d'Amour, who is listed at 30-1 on the morning line and will have Joel Rosario in the saddle. Oaks favorite Rachel's Valentina is 7-2 with John Velazquez as jockey.

Rachel's Valentina has earned her way to the Oakswith a win in the Spinaway at the Spa and a 2nd place finish to Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Songbird at Keeneland last fall. She is also the daughter of Bernardini and Rachel Alexandra.
