Victim in fatal Frankfort Avenue crash identified
It happened around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Frankfort Avenue and Cannons Lane.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- We now know the identity of the person killed in a single-vehicle crash on Frankfort Avenue early Thursday.
According to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Larry Carroll, 54-year-old Douglas Ware of Cannons Lane was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries. He wasn't wearing a seat belt.
Police say it happened around 4:30 a.m.
LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell says Carroll was westbound on Frankfort Avenue in a white Kia when he apparently hit a speed sign with his mirror, lost control and hit a utility pole at the corner of Frankfort Avenue and Cannons Lane.
No one else was in the car.
So far, it's unclear what caused the crash.
"We haven't ruled out any factors at this point of what the cause is," Mitchell said. "Our traffic investigators are doing that now to hopefully gather enough evidence to find out definitively what happened."
Both lanes of Frankfort Avenue were closed at Cannons Lane for several hours while police cleared the scene.
