Owensboro tobacco store no longer accepting 'sweaty money'

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- We've all had it happen before: someone hands you some dollar bills, and when you reach out to take them, you make an uncomfortable discovery.

It's sweaty money.

Money that has been kept your pocket after a long, hot day can sometimes be damp from sweat.

One Owensboro tobacco store is putting a stop to it. As the weather warms up, they have a new policy. They are no longer accepting sweat-soaked bills that people put in their bras and socks.

"Some of them like to bring me some soggy money," said Cindy Collins, manager of Tobacco Road in Owensboro, adding that sweaty money is, "nasty money that we don't want to accept anymore."

The manager says business has gone up since the policy was adopted. She says most customers think the sign is funny.
