Crowd gathers in Frankfort to mark National Day of Prayer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Wake Up America: That's the theme of today's National Day of Prayer.

A small crowd gathered on the steps of the state Capitol to pray for the government, education, the family and the military. Governor Matt Bevin and State Treasurer Allison Ball were among those taking part.

Bevin read a proclamation and prayed for guidance for the state's leaders.

"I believe in the power of prayer," Bevin told the crowd. "I believe in the importance of prayer. I believe in the significance of prayer. I pray continuously for the Commonwealth, for wisdom, that I could do my job with good judgment and discernment."

This is the 65th annual National Day of Prayer. The event was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress.
