LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Workers wrapped up work on the Garland of Lilies Thursday evening.

The garland will adorn the fastest filly in the Kentucky Oaks 142 Friday.

It took about four hours for florists to put it together at the Kroger in Middletown.

About 160 star fighter lilies are attached to the garland very carefully, and each flower has its own vial of water.

"We actually tie them down with yarn, because the lilies are so fragile. So, we try to be a little bit more careful with the yarn by tying them down. And, we actually put a little bit of florist's tape on the stem to make it a little thicker when it goes into the water pick," Trina Soldner, the garland's lead designer, said Thursday.

The finished product will be delivered to the Churchill Downs Friday morning.

You can watch workers put together the Garland of Roses for the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby at the Middletown Kroger, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.
